Saying goodbye to a loved one at sea is a deeply personal experience. The reviews below have been left by families who chose Ashes Scattered At Sea for their private sea ceremony, departing from Gosport into the Solent and surrounding coastal waters. We are grateful to every family who has taken the time to share their experience, and we hope their words help you feel confident in reaching out to us.
We use Dointhedo to scatter my fatherss ashes in the Solent and I could not recommend Dave highly enough. From the very first phone call he has been professional, sensitive to the situation and took care of every detail for us. Thank you Dave, you were simply brilliant guiding us through a very difficult time. Toni Hobbs
We booked with Dave to scatter my late fathers ashes back in June 2023. Dave's compassionate nature and attention to detail were beyond all expectations. The boat was meticulously clean and the occasion went without a hitch. If you plan on scattering beloved ones ashes at sea then I recommend Dave and Allen with no hesitation. Amanda Franklin
I cannot give praise high enough for the kindness and professionalism that we have received from Dave and his crew on the Dointhedo. From the prompt and comprehensive replies to our preliminary emails through to the day we scattered the ashes. The boat and the crew were absolutely perfect for just such an occasion. The boat was spotless, comfortable and smooth. There was the added bonus of a nice cup of tea/coffee and an on-board toilet. Dave had taken the time and trouble to discuss and locate the perfect spot for our requirements and showed just the right balance between direction and discretion on such a sensitive day. Thank you so much. Yvonne Tisson
Dave and his crew made it possible for us to give my brother Graham the send off that he would have wanted. We sailed out into the Solent and had a lovely, family ceremony. Everything was perfect. The boat is comfortable, has an excellent sound system for personal music choices and, most importantly, Dave and his crew were highly professional, in a very friendly and discreet way. Very highly recommended. Ian Jones
Five years ago my Father died. I live overseas and as a lot of things were going on at the time, I planned on going back the following year to spread his ashes. Unfortunately Covid hit and there was no traveling and then I became very ill and can no longer travel. The thought of my father sitting on the shelf at the funeral home upset me greatly My daughter offered to go in my place so I went on line and found Dave Stenson, the owner of Dointhedo boat hire. From the beginning Dave was wonderful, he understood completely what I wanted, it was only an intimate gathering, but we were able to play music and make little speeches. Everyone who went said it went very well, they weren't rushed and after watching the video, I think my Dad would have been very pleased. Thank you Dave for handling everything and making it a beautiful send off. Penny C
Wow! Would highly recommend this service. My dad was once a navy man & this was the best send-off we could possibly give him. With a spitfire flyover! We couldn't of asked for more. Dave & Amanda were fantastic throughout. Respectful & caring. It was lovely. You guys made the moment matter. Thank you so much. X Fran Smith
I would recommend this to anyone who wishes to say the final goodbye to their loved one. Dave made this experience one to remember in a good way. The whole experience from the first contact through to the day itself right up to departing from the boat was handled in a professional and respectful manner. The unscheduled but timely appearance of the well-known Spitfire sometimes based in Lee on the Solent made it all the more poignant. Dave gave some great advice with respect to the whole process and was an absolute pleasure to deal with. This was a very emotional experience made all the easier. Thanks very much. Allen Clarke
We took Mum's ashes out to sea. The boat was equipped for the space and comfort our family expected. The crew provided us with a H&S brief, our safety was made priority. The boat was taken to a deep water location and stopped, here we carried out the scattering ceremony. We travelled safely, managed to carry out our ceremony peacefully. The staff onboard were patient, informative and genuinely thoughtful and respectful throughout our time on the boat. Gurmet Kaur

We used Ashes at Sea to scatter my dad's ashes, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. Dave took the time to learn about my father and thoughtfully suggested a beautiful location near where the Mary Rose was raised, a peaceful, protected spot away from other vessels. The motor boat was ideal: clean, comfortable, easy to board, and with a covered area in case of bad weather. We were offered the option to play music during the ceremony, though we chose not to, and when the time came, we were given time alone to say our goodbyes peacefully. It was a calm, dignified, and truly meaningful experience. We cannot recommend Ashes at Sea highly enough. Matt Hebden
I was recommended Ashes at Sea Gosport by a friend. I called Dave and he was so friendly and easy to speak to. He then followed this up with an email with all the details which made the process extremely pain free. He listened to my ideas about where I would like the boat to go and he was very accommodating. The day was yesterday, we met Dave and Amanda who are the nicest, kindest people. The weather was amazing, the boat was beautiful, we went to the requested area, fulfilled Dads request to be put out to sea and we had some flowers. Dave and Amanda were so respectful and unobtrusive and kept the boat with Dad so we could say our goodbyes. It was honestly one of the best days of my life and exactly what my Dad would have wanted. And to top it off this morning I had an email with a beautiful certificate showing the coordinates of where Dad is which we can each keep forever. Highly recommend Dave and Amanda if you need this service, they are perfect. Kate Atkinson
I was really impressed with my initial contact with Dave. Dave was very thoughtful, respectful, kind and a pleasure to speak to. I was given very good advise with regards to: (1) Choosing water urns
(2) Transferring the ashes to the urn
(3) Ensuring the urn was good quality and fit for purpose
(4) Choosing flower petals
(5) The depth and flow of the water
(6) Travel directions
(7) Details of what the day would entail
(8) Personal questions I had with regards to the day
All of the above showed me that Dave really cared and placed great importance in ensuring my day was fulfilled. On the day, we met Dave and his crewmate and they were both a pleasure to meet and were very welcoming, accommodating, kind and thoughtful. They always ensured we were comfortable on the boat, offered refreshments and were engaging. Dave and his crewmate were very respectful of our time and space during the placing of the ashes into the water. We never felt rushed and were able to really take in the moment. After the ceremony Dave provided some good recommendations for places to visit and we took the opportunity to visit the Gunwharf Quays Designer Outlet near the Spinnaker Tower where we had some refreshments and a lovely Ice Cream at the Lindt chocolate shop. Thanks again to Dave and his crewmate at "Dointhedo" for a perfect day. Chiraag
